What is a planting plan?
A planting plan is a document produced as a stand-alone document, or as part of an overall garden design package, that indicates the positions and respective maximum sizes of plants within flowerbeds. Garden designers in Glasgow and elsewhere will often produce planting plans as an alternative to creating a comprehensive garden design, and for some this may represent a more affordable alternative to a full garden design package. Tom Angel is an award-winning garden designer who specialises in creating plans, offering this service nationwide as well as where he is based in Glasgow.
When you engage garden designers to create full garden design packages for you, ultimately you will receive a number of documents including everything from a concept plan to technical construction documents and last but not least planting plans. In many instances, however, you may not require a full garden design and you may just want to ask a garden designer to create a planting plan for you for a particular bed. This way you can upgrade your garden at an affordable cost, and as long as you are comfortable about the overall layout of your garden, this may be sufficient.
Tom creates garden designs as well as planting plans both nationwide as well as where he is based in Glasgow. If you are based in Glasgow, Tom will come out to visit your garden and conduct a micro-climate analysis and take a soil sample. After the initial consultation where Tom will be looking to draw out your aspirations for your garden, he will then be able to create your highly detailed planting plan for you. This comes with a comprehensive plant list and Tom is then able to source all plants and sundries for you. In many instances Tom is able to carry out or at least facilitate the planting works for you.
If you are not based in Glasgow but elsewhere in the UK, then Tom offers an online planting plan service. Tom grew up in London, and his professional career in horticulture, garden design and landscaping has taken him everywhere from London and Birmingham to Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen. After phone or email contact with Tom, you will be asked to send a small soil sample for testing, and you will have a short questionnaire to complete that will provide enough information to Tom to create a basic micro-climate analysis, as well as find out more details about your aspirations for your garden, and therefore what your planting plan will look like. Your planting plan and plant list are delivered as PDF documents. If you are based in Scotland Tom can normally source plants for you, and if you are based in London or anywhere else Tom may still be able to advise on where you can source your plants.
