Garden consultancy services rooted in best practice environmental horticulture are available for homeowners, residents' associations and private estates. Having spent many years as a gardener and landscape maintenance contractor, prior to qualifying with a Distinction in garden design, Tom is able to provide a holistic and pragmatic approach to help you get the very best out of your outdoor areas. Tom is a Chartered Horticulturist, Master of Horticulture (RHS), award-winning garden designer and passionate naturalist.

Design and consultancy services are available for gardens of every size, from modest city courtyards through to sprawling country estates. Garden designs can be concept-only or comprehensive packages including 3D visuals. Consultancy visits can be one-off ad hoc meetings, or comprehensive ongoing management arrangements, or anything in between!

Design and consultancy services are available principally in Glasgow, Edinburgh and across the central belt. Projects further afield are also taken on, including international projects.

How does it work?

  • Tom specialises in garden management consultancy, rooted in the principles of best practice environmental horticulture. After an initial discussion by email or phone, the first step is a meeting to walk around your garden and have a chat about your aspirations for the space. The meeting is followed up with a detailed PDF summary report which, depending on your precise requirements, can include the likes of soil tests, plant lists, maintenance advice and so on. Ongoing regular on site meetings are available on request. Available as a gift token.

  • A popular choice with clients who are first time owners of new or particularly large or complex gardens, or simply for customers embarking on a new or challenging project. After an initial meeting, either on site or virtually, a bespoke package is drawn up that can include phone, email and WhatsApp support, as well as regular on site visits if desired.

  • Whether for a suburban garden, communal grounds or private estates, Tom is able to compile detailed, bespoke maintenance schedules that fulfil your landscape, biodiversity and cosmetic aspirations. The PDF documents produced are easy to follow and are also suitable for use as tendering documents.

  • For some clients it is possible that a combination of emailed photographs of the garden, along with details about your aspirations for it or issues you are looking to address, can be followed up with a video-call consultation. This normally last around 30 minutes, but can be longer by arrangement.

  • For larger sites a management service is available that begins with an overall site management plan being created which can then be monitored, usually on a monthly, bi-monthly or quarterly basis, to ensure the site is being maintained and developed in the best possible way.

  • Soil tests are available in the greater Glasgow area, allowing you highly detailed insights into your soil’s health. A healthy soil makes a healthy garden, and so this is an essential step for most projects.

  • For bespoke consultancy visits, these can be purchased as a gift token which is delivered as a PDF document and the lucky recipient can then arrange the date of the consultancy after receiving the gift.
