FutureHort - RHS seminar on the future of horticulture
Tom presented a talk on his specialist subject - the maintenance of soft landscaped areas - at the inaugural FutureHort conference at the Royal Horticultural Society’s educational hub at Wisley. (Soft landscaping is a term used to describe all the living/organic parts of a landscape - the plants, trees, flowerbeds and lawns).
In a broad-ranging talk, Tom discussed the decline in standards of our green infrastructure over the last 40-50 years, revealing insights into why this has happened, what the nature of the problem is now, and - critically - how we address it in order to prevent further decline and ultimately help improve standards.
The FutureHort event was created to bring together graduates of the RHS’s most prestigious qualification, the Master of Horticulture award. Tom graduated in 2022, receiving a Distinction for his dissertation on the management of soft landscapes.
