Ideal Home Show
“Creating year-round interest in your garden” - presentation at the Ideal Home Show in Glasgow.
Tom presented a lively and engaging presentation to Ideal Home Show audiences throughout the day. Tom’s talks focused on his specialism with garden design, that of biodiversity-focused planting design. By using the right plants inthe right way, gardens with year-round interest are within reach of all garden owners.
The subject of how we approach and view gardens was also discussed, with Tom keen to emphasise that gardens should not be looked at as projects that are ever finished. Gardens are our opportunity to be guardians of a slice of nature that can improve our lives on multiple levels, but by their nature must be viewed as imperfect and impermanent. By embracing this philiosophy, we can welcome the nature of constant change within our gardens, and become less demotivated when things may not turn out exactly as we planned. Even for professional garden designers and planting designers, projects often evolve in ways that can surprise us. The aim is to achieve a garden with plants that are mostly, if not all, thriving, and in that way we can be assured that we are receiving the benefits that quality green spaces bring, and the local wildlife receive the benefits too.
